The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education in Engineering and Sciences. The Institute was founded by late Mr G.D.Birla who was an eminent industrialist and was active during the Indian freedom struggle.
The institute started as a small school in early 1900s and gradually transformed into a number of colleges for higher education. In 1964, all these colleges came under one administration and the Deemed University of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, was formed. BITS is located in the Vidya Vihar campus adjacent to the town of Pilani in Rajasthan.
Over the years BITS Pilani has opened other campuses in India and abroad. The Dubai campus was established in September 2000 and the Goa Campus was started in August 2004. The foundation stone for Hyderabad campus was laid in April 2007 and the campus is expected to start its first batch for the academic year 2008-09.
Admissions to Integrated first degree programmes, at Pilani campus, Goa campus and Hyderabad Campus for I Semester 2008-09 will be made through a computer based online test conducted by BITS, the BITS Admission Test (BITSAT).
